Deception Pass

Deception Pass is a narrow pass separating Whidbey Island from Fidalgo Island[?], in the northwest corner of Washington State.

In 1792, Captain George Vancouver sent First Mate Joseph Whidbey[?] to get fresh water from what appeared to be a stream that had been sighted. Since it was not a stream, but a pass to Puget Sound, the water was not fresh. Deceived by the nature of the pass, Vancouver named it Deception Pass.

The pass is bridged by Deception Pass Bridge[?] and is surrounded by a state park.
