David Holmes

David Holmes (March 10, 1769 - August 20, 1832) was the last governor of the Mississippi Territory[?] and the first governor of the the State of Mississippi. From 1797 to 1808 he was Representative of Virginia to the U.S. Congress. From 1819 to 1826 he served as U.S. Senator from Mississippi.

Holmes County, Mississippi is named in honor of him.
