Dan DeCarlo

Dan DeCarlo (December 12, 1917 - December 19, 2001 was arguably the comic book artist whose work has been seen by more people than anyone else. Certainly among the most prolific in terms of output.

While DeCarlo has a long and varied career he is best known for his work at Archie comics where he pioneered the company's house style in the 1950s. He is the creator of Sabrina the Teen-aged Witch and Josie and the Pussycats (named for his wife), and Cheryl Blossom.

In recent years he was involved in a bitter legal dispute with Archie Comics over ownership of his characters Josie and the Pussycats. The suit served to end a 40 year long relationship with the publisher.
