Sculpins are a family (Cottidae) of fish, belonging to the order Scorpaeniformes. There are about 300 species, mostly marine ones that are found in shallow coastal waters in the northern and arctic regions. Freshwater representatives of this family are few in number and include the Spoonhead Sculpin[?] (Cottus ricei) of North America, the Alpine Bullhead[?] (Cottus poecilopus) and the Bullhead (Cottus gobio).
