Cold cathode
A cold cathode vacuum tube is one in which there is no cathode heater[?].
In such a tube, glow discharge[?] is usually minimized, in favor of arc[?] discharge. Some important examples include the krytron[?], sprytron[?], and ignitron[?] tubes.
