Coir

Coir is a coarse fibre extracted from husk, the fibrous outer shell of a coconut. Dried husk is soaked in water for many days and beaten to produce coir fiber. This fiber is then spun to make rope, yarn, carpets[?] and door mats. The traditional skill of weaving coir fiber has been handed down through the centuries, from generation to generation. Despite the advance of technology the process of making coir is still as basic and manual as it was centuries ago.
