Cleveland, England

Cleveland is an area in the north east of England which had the status of county from 1974, when it was formed from parts of the North Riding of Yorkshire and County Durham. Previous to that it had no separate existence as a local government body.

In 1996 Cleveland was split into four unitary authorities, namely Hartlepool[?], Middlesbrough[?], Stockton[?] and Redcar and Cleveland[?].
