Chickens are raised for meat and eggs.
Male chickens, known as "cockerels" or "roosters," are common symbols of masculinity, and their natural inclination to fight has been exploited in staged cockfights, sometimes with a metal spike added to the natural spur. Most countries have banned cockfighting.
It has been claimed that cockfighting inspired much of the children's game Pokemon.
Chicken can be prepared for the table in a number of ways. It can be roasted, baked, or fried.
