Central City is a city located in Lawrence County, South Dakota. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 149.

Geography Central City is located at 44°22'2" North, 103°46'11" West (44.367211, -103.769652)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.4 km² (0.1 mi²). 0.4 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 149 people, 67 households, and 39 families residing in the city. The population density is 410.9/km² (1,033.0/mi²). There are 76 housing units at an average density of 209.6/km² (526.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 99.33% White, 0.00% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.67% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.00% from two or more races. 0.00% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 67 households out of which 19.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.7% are married couples living together, 4.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 40.3% are non-families. 32.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.22 and the average family size is 2.80.

In the city the population is spread out with 19.5% under the age of 18, 5.4% from 18 to 24, 33.6% from 25 to 44, 33.6% from 45 to 64, and 8.1% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 43 years. For every 100 females there are 112.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 118.2 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $21,250, and the median income for a family is $31,250. Males have a median income of $23,750 versus $18,438 for females. The per capita income for the city is $12,870. 15.9% of the population and 10.5% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 17.4% are under the age of 18 and 21.4% are 65 or older.
