Catherine Zeta-Jones is a
British actress, born
September 25,
1969 Catherine Jones (near Swansea, Wales) to a Welsh father and a mother of Irish Catholic extraction. She has 2 brothers. Her stage career began in childhood, and by
1987 she was appearing in
Forty-Second Street in the
West End. Her exotic good looks, teamed with her singing and dancing ability, ensured her a bright future, but it was in a straight acting role, as Mariette in the successful television adaptation of
H.E. Bates'
The Darling Buds of May[?] (
1991), that she made her name. She had adopted her grandmother's name of Zeta to create her stage name, both Catherine and Jones being common names.
She is married to the actor Michael Douglas. She is also an advertising spokesperson for the mobile phone company T-Mobile.
