Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 25,967 people, 8,963 households, and 6,354 families residing in the city. The population density is 884.1/km² (2,289.3/mi²). There are 9,603 housing units at an average density of 327.0/km² (846.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 75.07% White, 0.47% African American, 0.94% Native American, 0.83% Asian, 0.10% Pacific Islander, 19.68% from other races, and 2.91% from two or more races. 28.14% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 8,963 households out of which 39.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.7% are married couples living together, 13.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 29.1% are non-families. 23.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older.
