Cadillac automobile

Cadillac is a brand of automobiles, established in 1902 by engineer Henry Leland[?] and financiers William Murphy[?] and Lemuel Bowen[?]. It was purchased by the General Motors conglomerate in 1909.

Cadillac became General Motors' luxury division, producing large, ostentatious vehicles. It was one of the first autos with tail fins and its buxom front bumpers are legendary. The name has become a watchword for high quality in phrases such as "the Cadillac of lacrosse sticks".

The division's major base is within the United States. In other nations the Cadillac has not enjoyed great success.
