Cabernet Franc is a red winegrape similar to and a parent of Cabernet Sauvignon. Cabernet Franc tends to be softer and has less tannins that Cabernet Sauvignon. In Bordeaux, Cabernet Franc is often mixed with Merlot or Cabernet Sauvignon. Also, in California, it is blended to make Meritage wines.
