Brown Deer, Wisconsin

Brown Deer is a village located in Milwaukee County, Wisconsin. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 12,170.

Geography Brown Deer is located at 43°10'22" North, 87°58'40" West (43.172858, -87.977899)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 11.4 km² (4.4 mi²). 11.4 km² (4.4 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water. There is a creek that runs through the town but it generally has very little water in it.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 12,170 people, 5,134 households, and 3,249 families residing in the village. The population density is 1,067.9/km² (2,768.1/mi²). There are 5,335 housing units at an average density of 468.1/km² (1,213.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 82.04% White, 12.51% African American, 0.25% Native American, 2.62% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 0.66% from other races, and 1.88% from two or more races. 2.14% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 5,134 households out of which 25.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.8% are married couples living together, 7.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 36.7% are non-families. 31.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.27 and the average family size is 2.87.

In the village the population is spread out with 19.6% under the age of 18, 7.1% from 18 to 24, 28.1% from 25 to 44, 26.6% from 45 to 64, and 18.6% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 42 years. For every 100 females there are 90.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 87.2 males.

The median income for a household in the village is $50,847, and the median income for a family is $60,335. Males have a median income of $41,686 versus $31,463 for females. The per capita income for the village is $25,628. 3.6% of the population and 2.4% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 3.1% are under the age of 18 and 3.0% are 65 or older.
