Boligee, Alabama

Boligee is a town located in Greene County, Alabama. As of the 2000 census, the population of the town is 369.

Geography Boligee is located at 32°45'50" North, 88°1'33" West (32.763768, -88.025968)1.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 10.3 km² (4.0 mi²). 10.3 km² (4.0 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 369 people, 150 households, and 105 families residing in the town. The population density is 36.0/km² (93.3/mi²). There are 179 housing units at an average density of 17.5/km² (45.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 10.57% White, 88.89% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.54% from two or more races. 1.90% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 150 households out of which 44.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 26.0% are married couples living together, 41.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 30.0% are non-families. 27.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.46 and the average family size is 2.99.

In the town the population is spread out with 35.2% under the age of 18, 14.6% from 18 to 24, 19.8% from 25 to 44, 18.7% from 45 to 64, and 11.7% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 25 years. For every 100 females there are 69.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 60.4 males.

The median income for a household in the town is $15,000, and the median income for a family is $16,146. Males have a median income of $23,750 versus $21,000 for females. The per capita income for the town is $7,909. 44.9% of the population and 41.4% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 63.3% are under the age of 18 and 10.3% are 65 or older.
