Black Creek is a town located in Wilson County, North Carolina. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 714.

Geography Black Creek is located at 35°38'10" North, 77°55'60" West (35.635976, -77.933252)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.8 km² (0.7 mi²). 1.7 km² (0.7 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 714 people, 279 households, and 210 families residing in the town. The population density is 411.5/km² (1,062.0/mi²). There are 296 housing units at an average density of 170.6/km² (440.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 77.73% White, 18.91% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.28% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.70% from other races, and 2.38% from two or more races. 2.24% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 279 households out of which 38.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.0% are married couples living together, 17.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 24.4% are non-families. 21.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 6.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.54 and the average family size is 2.91.

In the town the population is spread out with 26.9% under the age of 18, 9.8% from 18 to 24, 32.1% from 25 to 44, 22.1% from 45 to 64, and 9.1% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 34 years. For every 100 females there are 87.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 89.1 males.

The median income for a household in the town is $30,368, and the median income for a family is $32,857. Males have a median income of $27,679 versus $20,909 for females. The per capita income for the town is $13,661. 16.9% of the population and 17.4% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 19.7% are under the age of 18 and 21.0% are 65 or older.
