Belknap County is a county located in the U.S. State of New Hampshire. As of 2000, the population is 56,325. Its county seat is Laconia6.

Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,214 km² (469 mi²). 1,039 km² (401 mi²) of it is land and 174 km² (67 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 14.35% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 56,325 people, 22,459 households, and 15,496 families residing in the county. The population density is 54/km² (140/mi²). There are 32,121 housing units at an average density of 31/km² (80/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 97.61% White, 0.29% African American, 0.30% Native American, 0.55% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.16% from other races, and 1.06% from two or more races. 0.74% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 22,459 households out of which 30.40% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 55.70% are married couples living together, 9.20% have a female householder with no husband present, and 31.00% are non-families. 24.40% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.70% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.45 and the average family size is 2.91.

In the county the population is spread out with 23.60% under the age of 18, 6.70% from 18 to 24, 28.10% from 25 to 44, 26.40% from 45 to 64, and 15.10% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 40 years. For every 100 females there are 97.10 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 95.10 males.

The median income for a household in the county is $43,605, and the median income for a family is $50,510. Males have a median income of $34,741 versus $25,445 for females. The per capita income for the county is $22,758. 6.10% of the population and 4.50% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 7.60% are under the age of 18 and 4.90% are 65 or older.
