The barn owls (Family Tytonidae) are one of the two groups of owls, the other being the typical owls Strigidae. The two genera contain over twenty species of barn owls.
Barn owls occur worldwide. The best-known species, the Barn Owl, Tyto alba occurs on every continent except Antarctica.
