Bailli de Suffren, or Pierre André de Suffren de Saint-Tropez (1729-1788), was a 
French admiral, most famous for his campaign in the 
Indian Ocean, in which he successfully contended for supremacy against the established British power there, led by Vice-Admiral 
Sir Edward Hughes[?].
From '49-'54 he served in the navy of the order of the Maltezer knights, where he received the title Bailli.
