Baal Peor

Baal Peor was a Canaanite god of fertility and virility[?], being his cult especially characterised by sexual indulgence and licentiousness. The Israelites worshipped this god during some time, being admonished by the prophets and patriarchs.

The worship of this god, besides sexual libertinage, consisted in exposing the genitalia.

Baal Peor was generally depicted exposing and erected phallus, and sometimes by means of a phallic symbol too.

The name seems to come from a Moabite mount called Peor, meaning Lord of Peor.

Other spellings: Peor, Belphegor.
