An Asian American is a person of Asian ancestry or origin who was born in or is an immigrant of the United States.

Major groups of Asian American are those of East Asian ancestry, whose population has been increasing since the 18th century: Chinese American, Japanese American, and Korean American.

The following is a list of Asian-Americans from smaller ethnic communities, such as those from Southeast Asia and South Asia:

Although the Middle East is geographically a part of Asia, its culture makes most Americans consider people from this region a separate community from those of East Asian background. Siberians and former USSR Central Asians are usually not spoken of as "Asian-Americans" either.
