Ashville is a town located in St. Clair County, Alabama. As of the 2000 census, the population of the town is 2,260. The city is the county seat of St. Clair County6.

Geography Ashville is located at 33°50'37" North, 86°15'59" West (33.843737, -86.266274)1.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 50.3 km² (19.4 mi²). 50.1 km² (19.3 mi²) of it is land and 0.2 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.46% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 2,260 people, 814 households, and 608 families residing in the town. The population density is 45.1/km² (116.9/mi²). There are 905 housing units at an average density of 18.1/km² (46.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 69.42% White, 26.55% African American, 0.18% Native American, 0.18% Asian, 0.31% Pacific Islander, 1.81% from other races, and 1.55% from two or more races. 2.88% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 814 households out of which 37.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.6% are married couples living together, 14.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 25.2% are non-families. 22.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.64 and the average family size is 3.10.

In the town the population is spread out with 25.7% under the age of 18, 8.9% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 23.2% from 45 to 64, and 14.0% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 102.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 100.1 males.

The median income for a household in the town is $31,509, and the median income for a family is $38,355. Males have a median income of $31,081 versus $21,914 for females. The per capita income for the town is $15,867. 15.1% of the population and 11.4% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 14.1% are under the age of 18 and 18.3% are 65 or older.
