Arvo Pärt

Arvo Pärt is an Estonian composer best known for his compositions beginning in the 1970s when his work took a turn toward minimalism.

A word used by Pärt to describe his music is tinntinabuli, a word that describes the sound of bells ringing. (...)

Pärt has said that his music is similar to light going through a prism: the music may have a slightly different meaning for each listener, thus creating a spectrum of musical experience, similar to the rainbow of light.

Among Pärt's most renowned works are:

  • Kanon Pokajanen
  • Litany
  • Fratres (1976 and on, many versions)
  • Cantus In Memoriam Benjamin Britten (1977)
  • Festina Lente (1988)
  • Tabula Rasa
