The
Apollo asteroids are a group of
near-Earth asteroids named after
1862 Apollo[?], The first
asteroid of this group to be discovered. They have average orbital diameters greater than that of the Earth. Notice the important condition of "average" orbital diameters. Some Apollos have eccentric orbits that cross the orbit of the Earth, making them a potential threat to our planet.
Other well-known Apollo asteroids include 1685 Toro[?], 1620 Geographos[?], and 1566 Icarus[?].
