Aperion

Anaximander, one of the presocratic Greek philosophers, proposed the existence of an aperion, being an unlimited reserve of matter from which all things in the universe originate. Thales, a contemporary, claimed that water, one of the four elements (water, fire, earth, air), was the arché of all matter.
