Anting

Anting (安亭) is a town in Shanghai, China. Pronounced An'ting, it placename means "The Pavilion of Peace".

Anting is located in the Jiading[?] District (嘉定区) of Shanghai, on the border of the neighboring province of Jiangsu.

It has 52,800 inhabitants and an area of 59.75 km².

Anting is one of the centers of the Chinese automobile industry; it is home to the joint German/Chinese venture, Shanghai Volkswagen. This enterprise has the largest market share of passenger cars in China.

For a time, the "Shanghai International Circuit," China's first Formula One race track, was located near the city.

Subdivisons

• Tamiao Village (塔廟村): capital, "Auto City" (汽车村)
• Shuangpu Village (雙浦村)
• Gupu Village (顧浦村): smallest

In the southern part of the city, an extension of "Anting Auto City" called "Anting New Town" (安亭新镇) is being built in the fashion of "Anting German Town" (安亭德国镇).
