After taking a degree in American History at Princeton University in 1985, he began work with the Smithsonian on an oral history program interviewing surviving participants in the Manhattan Project -- the building of the world's first atomic bomb.
This oral history project led to his first memoir collaboration, with the Nobel laureate in physics, Eugene Wigner, of Princeton, New Jersey.
He followed that memoir with a memoir collaboration with the civil rights leader Charles Evers, of Fayette, Mississippi. That memoir is called "Have No Fear"
Szanton helped former U.S. Senator from Massachusetts Edward Brooke with his memoirs.
Szanton has written the Humphrey Bogart profile for Wikipedia.
He is now helping George Pake, of Palo Alto and Tucson, with a memoir describing his years as founding director of the seminal research firm Xerox PARC.
Andrew Szanton is also a veteran freelance editor and writing instructor.
In memoir collaboration, he works by assembling a narrative, usually chronological, and then by focusing on three key issues: character, setting and motive.
