Albion, Pennsylvania

Albion is a borough located in Erie County, Pennsylvania. As of the 2000 census, the borough had a total population of 1,607.

Geography Albion is located at 41°53'28" North, 80°21'42" West (41.891183, -80.361530)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 2.8 km² (1.1 mi²). 2.7 km² (1.1 mi²) of it is land and 0.93% is water.

Demographics As of the census2 of 2000, there are 1,607 people, 655 households, and 425 families residing in the borough. The population density is 585.3/km² (1,510.7/mi²). There are 695 housing units at an average density of 253.2/km² (653.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the borough is 98.38% White, 0.50% African American, 0.31% Native American, 0.37% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.12% from other races, and 0.31% from two or more races. 1.18% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 655 households out of which 34.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.0% are married couples living together, 12.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 35.0% are non-families. 30.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 15.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.45 and the average family size is 3.07.

In the borough the population is spread out with 28.6% under the age of 18, 6.4% from 18 to 24, 30.4% from 25 to 44, 20.3% from 45 to 64, and 14.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 35 years. For every 100 females there are 87.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 82.1 males.

The median income for a household in the borough is $33,007, and the median income for a family is $40,650. Males have a median income of $31,620 versus $21,157 for females. The per capita income for the borough is $15,361. 11.8% of the population and 10.6% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 14.2% are under the age of 18 and 13.4% are 65 or older.
