Akureyri

Akureyri (population 16,000) is Iceland's second largest city, after the capital Reykjavik. It is located in the north of the country, on the southwestern shores of the Eyjafjörður[?] or Eyja Fjord.

The town was settled in around 900, and has one of the country's largest fishing ports. Akureyri was chartered in 1786, and hosts a university.
