Akihito (明仁), (born December 23, 1933) is the current and 125th Emperor of Japan.

He assumed the throne on January 7, 1989 after the death of his father and then emperor of Japan, Hirohito. He has entitled an era name "Heisei". His wife is Michiko[?].
