Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is a US organisation for the promotion of movies. It was founded on May 11, 1927 in the US state California.

The Academy is known around the world almost exclusively for its yearly Academy Awards for Hollywood films, which in turn are more popularly know as the "Oscars". This is reflected in the name of the Academy's web site, [www.oscars.org (http://www.oscars.org)].
