Academic organizations typically have a rather rigid set of ranks. Within the United States the hierarchy of ranks are
- Full Professor
- Associate Professor
- Assistant Professor
- Post-doctoral fellow
- Graduate student which include teaching assistants[?] and research assistants[?]
- Undergraduate
There is a parallel system of administrative ranks
- President
- Dean
- Department head
