Abort (computing)

In a computer or data transmission system, abort means to terminate[?], usually in a controlled manner, a processing activity because it is impossible or undesirable for the activity to proceed.

The a program or process is terminated abnormally and usually suddenly, with or without diagonstic[?] information. "My program aborted", "I aborted the transmission". The noun form in computing is "abort", not "abortion", e.g. "We've had three aborts over the last two days".

If a Unix kernel[?] aborts it is known as a panic[?].
