Abbotsford, British Columbia

Abbotsford (2001 population 115,463) is a city on the Fraser River in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia, Canada.

The city was founded in 1889 when a town plan was drawn up by John Maclure[?], who owned the land the city was built on. Maclure, a former British surveyor, received the land as a thank you for keeping Americans out of an 1850s gold rush in the Fraser valley. The village was incorporated in 1892.
