Aalst

Aalst is a municipality located in the Belgian province of East Flanders. The municipality comprises the city of Aalst proper and the towns of Baardegem[?], Erembodegem[?], Gijzegem[?], Herdersem[?], Hofstade[?], Meldert[?], Moorsel[?] and Nieuwerkerken. On January 1st, 2000 Aalst had a total population of 76,313 (37,331 males and 38,982 females). The total area is 78.5 km² which gives a population density of 972.14 inhabitants per km².
