Nieuwerkerken is a municipality located in the Belgian province of Limburg. On January 1st, 2002 Nieuwerkerken had a total population of 6,486 (3,209 males and 3,277 females). The total area is 22.45 km² which gives a population density of 288.91 inhabitants per km².
