The 1970s are generally remembered as a time of transition for pop and rock music. This was the decade in which music went from 1960s type of pop at the start to Disco music[?] towards the end, which in turn, was the rhythm that led the music world into the 1980s.
This is pretty simplistic.

It should be pointed out that, contrary to popular belief, The Bee Gees are not a 1970s band. They are a 1960s band that had multiple hits in Australia, England and the United States during the 60's before coming back and scoring a few hits with the soundtrack of Saturday Night Fever.
