1-up

A 1-up is a video game term for an "extra life" or an extra chance to play the game. One ups are usually collected as items or earned by the game's characters through acomplishments. They are usually the ultimate reward, and difficult to obtain.

Some games feature 2-ups, 3-ups, or even 5-ups, as well.
