Yuma County, Colorado

Yuma County is a county located in the U.S. state of Colorado. As of 2000, the population is 9,841. The county seat is Wray.

Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 6,136 km² (2,369 mi²). 6,127 km² (2,366 mi²) of it is land and 9 km² (3 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.14% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 9,841 people, 3,800 households, and 2,644 families residing in the county. The population density is 2/km² (4/mi²). There are 4,295 housing units at an average density of 1/km² (2/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 94.17% White, 0.11% African American, 0.28% Native American, 0.07% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 4.14% from other races, and 1.21% from two or more races. 12.88% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 3,800 households out of which 33.30% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.60% are married couples living together, 6.80% have a female householder with no husband present, and 30.40% are non-families. 27.40% of all households are made up of individuals and 13.30% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.55 and the average family size is 3.13.

In the county the population is spread out with 28.30% under the age of 18, 7.10% from 18 to 24, 26.00% from 25 to 44, 22.30% from 45 to 64, and 16.30% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 37 years. For every 100 females there are 96.80 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 94.90 males.

The median income for a household in the county is $33,169, and the median income for a family is $39,814. Males have a median income of $26,124 versus $18,578 for females. The per capita income for the county is $16,005. 12.90% of the population and 8.80% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 15.50% are under the age of 18 and 10.70% are 65 or older.
