Yiff

Yiff is a term popularised by the Furry multiuser Internet gaming MUD community, intended as a simulation of the "noise" made by participants on FurryMUCK who play on-line fox characters (see Yerf). However the growing population of Furry's virtual sex scene (see Cybersex) has brought the current usage more towards that of common word "sexy"-- like "a yiffy fur", and "yiffy artwork". Some even talk about going to the next Furry convention and yiffing their virtual partners in RL.

A few of those who are horrified by the above association make the on-going attempt to define the popular usage of arguably Furry fandom's most successful example of jargon into something more generally acceptable-- their agenda being to advertise furry fandom as all about nice clean fun amongst a friendly and tolerant community.

The 1997 Furry Fandom convention "Albany Anthrocon" had a situatation where three different groups (the "sexy", "fun", and "I'm-tired-of-the-whingers" factions) all took to writing "I'M YIFFY!" on their name-badges. The confusion and ill-karma it generated in the extremists was of great amusement to the convention attendees.
