WPXN

WPXN is a New York City-based television station operating on UHF Channel 31. It was original started as WUHF-TV then it became WNYC after the Municipal Broadcasting Authority took ownership. It was sold in the 1990s to ITT/Dow Jones who changed the call letters to WBIS. After the station failed with its business and sports format it was sold to Paxson Communications who again changed the call-letters this time to WPXN and it became the flagship of the new Pax television network.

On September 11, 2001, the transmitter facilities of Channel 31 as well as six other New York City television stations and several radio stations were destroyed when two hijacked airplanes crashed into and destroyed the World Trade Center towers.
