Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 22.0 km² (8.5 mi²). 18.5 km² (7.2 mi²) of it is land and 3.5 km² (1.4 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 16.10% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 11,283 people, 4,311 households, and 2,828 families residing in the city. The population density is 609.3/km² (1,578.9/mi²). There are 4,573 housing units at an average density of 246.9/km² (639.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 76.81% White, 1.91% African American, 0.49% Native American, 7.06% Asian, 0.13% Pacific Islander, 11.49% from other races, and 2.11% from two or more races. 19.28% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 4,311 households out of which 30.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.4% are married couples living together, 8.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 34.4% are non-families. 28.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 15.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older.
