Woodbury County, Iowa

Woodbury County is a county located in the U.S. State of Iowa. As of 2000, the population is 103,877. Its county seat is Sioux City, Iowa6.

Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2,272 km² (877 mi²). 2,260 km² (873 mi²) of it is land and 12 km² (5 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.55% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 103,877 people, 39,151 households, and 26,426 families residing in the county. The population density is 46/km² (119/mi²). There are 41,394 housing units at an average density of 18/km² (47/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 87.48% White, 2.02% African American, 1.69% Native American, 2.41% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 4.37% from other races, and 1.99% from two or more races. 9.11% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 39,151 households out of which 34.00% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.90% are married couples living together, 11.30% have a female householder with no husband present, and 32.50% are non-families. 26.60% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.20% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.58 and the average family size is 3.13.

In the county the population is spread out with 27.30% under the age of 18, 10.20% from 18 to 24, 28.30% from 25 to 44, 20.80% from 45 to 64, and 13.40% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 34 years. For every 100 females there are 96.10 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 92.80 males.

The median income for a household in the county is $38,509, and the median income for a family is $46,499. Males have a median income of $31,664 versus $22,599 for females. The per capita income for the county is $18,771. 10.30% of the population and 7.20% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 13.60% are under the age of 18 and 7.40% are 65 or older.
