Winchester Bay is a town located in Douglas County, Oregon. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 488.

Geography Winchester Bay is located at 43°40'30" North, 124°10'45" West (43.674993, -124.179196)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 9.5 km² (3.7 mi²). 6.9 km² (2.7 mi²) of it is land and 2.6 km² (1.0 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 27.12% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 488 people, 238 households, and 139 families residing in the town. The population density is 70.8/km² (183.6/mi²). There are 362 housing units at an average density of 52.5/km² (136.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 96.11% White, 0.00% African American, 1.43% Native American, 0.41% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.20% from other races, and 1.84% from two or more races. 1.43% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 238 households out of which 16.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 50.8% are married couples living together, 4.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 41.2% are non-families. 36.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 20.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.01 and the average family size is 2.57.

In the town the population is spread out with 16.8% under the age of 18, 7.6% from 18 to 24, 18.9% from 25 to 44, 27.5% from 45 to 64, and 29.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 50 years. For every 100 females there are 116.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 120.7 males.

The median income for a household in the town is $30,139, and the median income for a family is $37,292. Males have a median income of $30,625 versus $22,321 for females. The per capita income for the town is $17,307. 21.3% of the population and 17.9% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 38.1% are under the age of 18 and 6.3% are 65 or older.
