Wikipedia:WikiProject Medical Conditions

First, an important note for everyone to remember:

A few Wikipedians have gotten together to make some suggestions about how we might organize data in articles about medical disorders, diseases, and other conditions. These are only suggestions, things to give you focus and to get you going, and you shouldn't feel obligated in the least to follow them. But if you don't know what to write or where to begin, following the below guidelines may be helpful. Mainly, we just want you to write articles!

Structure There should be a Main Page article called Health science which contains medical conditions or links to categories of conditions. New conditions should be placed in such a way that they are accessible through Heath science or one of its subcategories.

NOTE: There is no need to create a heading if only a couple of sentences worth of informaiton for an area are available. Instead this information can go into the introduction until more information is added. There is no need at all for an "Introduction" heading.

The article should contain the following information:

  • Introduction
  • History
  • Causes
    • Describe the known or suspected causes of the medical condition.
  • Types or Categories (if applicable)
  • Presentation (signs and symptoms)
  • Prognosis
    • Describe the expected course and outcome of the condition. Also include the likelihood of recovery.
  • Diagnosis
  • Treament
    • Include the various methods of treament used.
    • Include any complications from treatments.
  • Incidence and Prevalence
  • Prevention and Control
    • Describe methods used to prevent contraction or spread of the condition.
    • Describe methods for controlling outbreaks of a particular condition.

Hierarchy Definition No classification of medical conditions has been defined. See this example on dividing a topic into a hierarchy.
