Wikipedia:Deleted test

You've probably come here from a recently created page whose text may soon be deleted.

If you created the page, Welcome to Wikipedia! Please understand that we mean no harm in deleting your page. In fact, we're delighted to have you, but the page you created seemed to be a test, rather than a new encyclopedia article. If it was a test, congratulations - you succeeded in creating a page. Please use the Wikipedia:sandbox for further testing, or create yourself a user page.

If we misunderstood, just go back and restore your content - it'll still be in the page history[?] - perhaps accompanied by a bit more explanation so nobody else will mistake it for a test page. Every few days, an administrator will wander past and delete pages that link here (assuming there's no controversy - we work on the principle of consensus here).

Using this page

At the top of the page that you feel is a test, just add something like the following to the top of the page and (optionally) wipe it:

''This page appeared to be created as a test page, and is scheduled for [[Wikipedia:Deleted test|deletion]].''

If this page is not a test page, and should not be deleted, you can find the old content by clicking on '''Page history''' on the left, and put it back, perhaps with an explanation of why this is not a test page..

This is preferable to a redirect, which is potentially confusing for a new user.If you don't want to use this page, consider listing the newly created page on wikipedia:votes for deletion (if you are not an administrator) or just deleting it straight away (if you are an administrator).

Advice for sysops

  • Use "What links here" and start at the top - these are pages that were last edited longest ago.
  • Check talk pages, page history, etc -- if there is a dispute over whether the page should be deleted, consider first listing it on wikipedia:votes for deletion
  • Review our policy on permanent deletion -- consider if a redirect to an existing article would be a better alternative to deletion.
