Whitfield County is a county located in the U.S. State of Georgia. As of 2000, the population is 83,525. The county's county seat is Dalton, Georgia6.

Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 753 km² (291 mi²). 751 km² (290 mi²) of it is land and 2 km² (1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.23% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 83,525 people, 29,385 households, and 22,156 families residing in the county. The population density is 111/km² (288/mi²). There are 30,722 housing units at an average density of 41/km² (106/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 80.94% White, 3.85% African American, 0.35% Native American, 0.92% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 12.01% from other races, and 1.90% from two or more races. 22.05% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 29,385 households out of which 36.80% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.50% are married couples living together, 10.80% have a female householder with no husband present, and 24.60% are non-families. 20.60% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.20% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.82 and the average family size is 3.24.

In the county the population is spread out with 27.30% under the age of 18, 10.00% from 18 to 24, 30.80% from 25 to 44, 21.50% from 45 to 64, and 10.30% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 33 years. For every 100 females there are 101.30 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 98.90 males.

The median income for a household in the county is $39,377, and the median income for a family is $44,652. Males have a median income of $30,122 versus $23,709 for females. The per capita income for the county is $18,515. 11.50% of the population and 8.60% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 12.70% are under the age of 18 and 11.70% are 65 or older.
