Whiteside County, Illinois

Whiteside County is a county located in the U.S. State of Illinois. As of 2000, the population is 60,653. Its county seat is Morrison, Illinois6.

Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,805 km² (697 mi²). 1,774 km² (685 mi²) of it is land and 32 km² (12 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.76% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 60,653 people, 23,684 households, and 16,768 families residing in the county. The population density is 34/km² (89/mi²). There are 25,025 housing units at an average density of 14/km² (36/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 92.81% White, 1.02% African American, 0.26% Native American, 0.42% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 4.07% from other races, and 1.41% from two or more races. 8.82% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 23,684 households out of which 31.50% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.50% are married couples living together, 9.50% have a female householder with no husband present, and 29.20% are non-families. 25.10% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.80% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.51 and the average family size is 2.99.

In the county the population is spread out with 25.00% under the age of 18, 8.20% from 18 to 24, 27.00% from 25 to 44, 23.70% from 45 to 64, and 16.10% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 38 years. For every 100 females there are 95.90 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 93.10 males.

The median income for a household in the county is $40,354, and the median income for a family is $46,653. Males have a median income of $35,314 versus $21,828 for females. The per capita income for the county is $19,296. 8.50% of the population and 6.20% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 11.40% are under the age of 18 and 4.80% are 65 or older.
