Whitehorse is a town located in Dewey County, South Dakota. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 141.

Geography Whitehorse is located at 45°16'16" North, 100°53'15" West (45.271141, -100.887494)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 6.9 km² (2.7 mi²). 6.9 km² (2.7 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 141 people, 37 households, and 31 families residing in the town. The population density is 20.4/km² (52.7/mi²). There are 43 housing units at an average density of 6.2/km² (16.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 2.84% White, 0.00% African American, 94.33% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 2.84% from two or more races. 0.00% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 37 households out of which 64.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 32.4% are married couples living together, 37.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 16.2% are non-families. 16.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 0.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.81 and the average family size is 4.10.

In the town the population is spread out with 52.5% under the age of 18, 7.8% from 18 to 24, 28.4% from 25 to 44, 9.2% from 45 to 64, and 2.1% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 16 years. For every 100 females there are 80.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 97.1 males.

The median income for a household in the town is $16,250, and the median income for a family is $13,750. Males have a median income of $16,250 versus $16,667 for females. The per capita income for the town is $8,266. 56.6% of the population and 60.0% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 61.5% are under the age of 18 and 40.0% are 65 or older.
