White Lake, North Carolina

White Lake is a town located in Bladen County, North Carolina. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 529.

Geography White Lake is located at 34°37'56" North, 78°29'53" West (34.632215, -78.498148)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 6.5 km² (2.5 mi²). 2.3 km² (0.9 mi²) of it is land and 4.2 km² (1.6 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 64.68% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 529 people, 238 households, and 149 families residing in the town. The population density is 229.5/km² (593.1/mi²). There are 1,060 housing units at an average density of 459.9/km² (1,188.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 92.25% White, 3.59% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.57% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 3.02% from other races, and 0.57% from two or more races. 3.40% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 238 households out of which 23.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 50.4% are married couples living together, 9.7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 37.0% are non-families. 32.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.22 and the average family size is 2.83.

In the town the population is spread out with 20.8% under the age of 18, 7.0% from 18 to 24, 27.6% from 25 to 44, 30.8% from 45 to 64, and 13.8% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 42 years. For every 100 females there are 94.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 91.3 males.

The median income for a household in the town is $35,375, and the median income for a family is $45,625. Males have a median income of $36,875 versus $25,000 for females. The per capita income for the town is $22,446. 14.2% of the population and 9.9% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 30.4% are under the age of 18 and 11.0% are 65 or older.
